Notification of expiration date on course certificate

I wish it were possible to set up notifications on documents. For example, I have a separate folder in my personnel folder where I add course certificates for the various employees. It would be really handy if I could set up a notification on a course certificate so that I receive an email when the expiry date is approaching. In other words, I could click on the three dots on the right-hand side of a document (see attached image), select an option called "Notification" and manually enter the date I want to receive a notification on the document.
